What's the best most practical way to learn a new language? I've been helping my niece learn how to read and so far learning the names of the letters and the sound that corresponds to then seems to work the best. I'm wondering if there's a better way.

also does anyone want to learn Japanese with me I'll be posting what tips and suggestions I find here and hope to make this as fun and exciting for everyone, they say the first thing you learn in a new language is how to curse but we could probably flirt~

I know Katakana, Hirigana, some kanji and basic grammar, but you're probably a higher level than me.
